About Me

Hello, I’m Gareth and I’m a Bang Average Runner.

Well, not really – first off I’m a husband, a dad, and someone with a day job looking at and after data.  Then, I run a bit and co-event direct my local parkrun (Llanishen Park) with my wife.  I first got into running a few years ago as a means to lose weight – I’d always hated it, but found that my first passion: hooning around through the streets of Bristol and London on my push bike, just wasn’t cutting the mustard.  Or compensating for the cakes, if you prefer.

Since then, I’ve been fortunate enough to run at some amazing events (the London Marathon in 2016 included), but you’ll usually find me pounding (literally) the pavements of Cardiff heading back and forth to work with my trusty iPads on my back.   I’m also a bit of a statto and love pulling together interesting facts about our local parkrun events, my own “Strava” data, and have even started some political/electoral research. A big focus for me recently has also been AI and I’ve been using it in my daily research and to help with timesaving – all via local LLMs I’ll deploy on my home rig, or my trusty Raspberry Pis (yes, that is possible and the results aren’t too bad).

You can find out more about me in a professional capacity from my LinkedIn page (see here), otherwise you’ll find an assortment of ramblings on this site. Let me know if any of it is interesting to you, or has been useful.
